SLU Libraries use the Library of Congress classification system to arrange our books by subject. The letter at the beginning of a call number indicate the broad subject of the book. The Library of Congress Classification Outline will give you an overview of how the letters are associated with subjects. You can read more about Library of Congress call numbers and how to read them on the libraries website: http://lib.slu.edu/research/guide/interpreting-call-numbers.php.
