Here are a few of the differences you'll find in library databases.

  1. Subjects Covered - Some databases are very general and multidisciplinary and some are very subject specific (narrowly focused on one subject area).
  2. Type of Publications Included - Databases include different kinds of content (eBooks, articles, book chapters, dissertations, book reviews, books, primary sources, etc.). With regard to article content, some databases might include only scholarly journal articles, while others might also include popular magazine and newspaper articles.
  3. Publication Dates Covered
  4. Level of Article Content Included - Some databases include every article in full-text, others have some articles in full-text, and others include only information about the articles (indexes).
